Solar cells have come a very long way since they were invented in 1941. And now they are going a very long way too. In fact, Solar Impulse 2, an airplane powered solely by solar cells, is going to circumnavigate the globe over five months, in 25 flying days, without a drop of liquid fuel on board.
And while solar cells continue to prove themselves in the air, on the ground, solar energy as a sustainable alternative source goes from strength to strength. Solar capacity continues to increase. And costs continue to drop.
