In the first quarter of 2019, Vietnam’s trade surplus with the U.S. was $13.5 billion. This represents an increase of approximately 45.5% over the same figure for the first quarter of 2018.

According to a report in the Financial Times, the rise in Vietnam’s trade surplus has a lot to do with the rise in its exports of goods that are “covered by President Trump’s” tariff regime.
Although Mr. Trump doesn’t appear to mind about the situation at the moment, who knows just how long this will last. We’ll just have to wait and see.
