The Standard and Poor's MidCap 400, or the S&P MidCap 400, is a U.S. based stock market index. The S&P MidCap 400 index is based on the stock prices of the 400 smaller cap stocks within the S&P 500. The 400 stocks that make up the S&P MidCap 400 are picked by S&P Dow Jones Indices and are a subset of the stocks in the S&P 500. The stock list includes such companies as Aeropostale, Dick's Sporting Goods, KB Homes, and New York Times.
